Robert T. Dillon, the biology professor at the College of Charleston who resisted administrators’ requests that he update his syllabus with learning outcomes, is suing the South Carolina college and says he will retire, The Post and Courierreports.
Mr. Dillon’s odd saga was described in a Chronicle article in March. In short: Mr. Dillon, who had been a thorn in the side of administrators for some time, responded to their requests by adding a quotation from Woodrow Wilson to his syllabus. That did not satisfy higher-ups, who eventually suspended Mr. Dillon for the fall semester.
Mr. Dillon now plans to retire this month, according to The Post and Courier. He filed a lawsuit against the college on July 21, asserting that the institution had defamed him and violated his due-process rights in disciplining him.
A spokesman for the college declined to comment on the suit to the newspaper.
